I see counseling as a process in which you the client, and I, the PLPC having come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. You are in control of what you want to accomplish in our sessions and goals are determined and evaluated weekly.
My theoretical orientation is informed by the Client-Centered approach, which is used to establish rapport and to clarify issues throughout the session, along with Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which is where patterns of thoughts and actions are explored in order to better understand the clients’ problems and to develop solutions.
I further, employ a holistic, eclectic approach to mental health, honoring spirituality as a tenet of wellness. I utilize expressive, in addition to cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic approaches to care. Formal and informal “homework” are often used to augment the counseling experience. I work with clients in a variety of formats, including individually, couples and families. I also conduct group therapy. I see clients of all ages and backgrounds with the exception that I do not work individually with children under six years of age.

"INTERPRETING A PIECE OF ARTWORK OR A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE CAN HELP A THERAPIST/COUNSELOR UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON IN A TEENAGERS MIND, AND IT CAN HELP THE TEENAGER LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR OWN MOTIVATIONS AND FEELINGS. CREATING ART IS A SAFE WAY FOR TEENS TO EXPRESS THEIR INNER THOUGHTS WITHOUT HAVING TO STATE THEM OUTRIGHT."
